I’m Gemma, a celebration cake maker, a designer, a project manager, a mum to 2 boys and I love a party! Oh and did I forget to say that I have an incredibly sweet-tooth too!

 

My passion for cakes started as a child with memories of my late Nan always baking up a cake whether for a birthday party, Xmas or just for our Sunday family gathering. Her classic Victoria Sponge was always a winner!

 

Fast forward to my adult life and I have always enjoyed baking whether a cake or dessert. It’s a standard call with friends that if we are having a celebration or dinner gathering Gemma will provide the dessert!

 

Now with 2 children of my own I wanted them to enjoy the same celebrations as I did as a child and what started as a hobby for their birthday parties has quickly turned into an obsession with cake making.

 

From countless hours exploring new recipes, perfecting flavours, taste testing and consistently talking about cakes to my partner, Cake & Layer was born in 2020 offering both buttercream and fondant finished cakes.
